We are looking for a seasoned payroll professional that can manage and lead the payroll function at Ackermans. Reporting directly to the Remuneration and Benefits HR Manager, you will be part of a high-performing and vibrant Human Resources team. The position is based at our Support Centre in Kuils River, Cape Town.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BCom Accounting Degree or any other degree that has finance as a major subject
  • BCom Accounting Degree + SAPA membership (Designation: Payroll Practitioner)
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Expert knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and Payroll legislation
  • Thorough understanding of Payroll reconciliations and how it impacts the general ledger
  • Knowledge of BCEA and other employment legislation
  • Excellent understanding of employee tax legislation

SKILLS:

  • Excellent Communication skills – verbal and written

  • High Levels of Computer literacy – advanced Excel
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team
  • Ability to project manage changes relating to payroll processes

EXPERIENCE:

  • 10 years of payroll (salaries) experience, including 5 years in a Payroll Supervisory position
  • Minimum of 5 years of integrated payroll systems experience
  • Large payroll experience, over 10000 employees

Preferred:

  • 5 Years’ experience as Payroll Manager
  • Experience with tax legislation in neighbouring countries we trade-in

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Input:

  • Manages the internal payroll SLA
  • Ensure that payroll documentation is relevant, easy to use, and disseminate in the business to ensure that the payroll
  • input process is in line with business needs. (Festive packs, timesheets, onboarding forms that payroll needs, etc)
  • Ensure that all PAYROLL INPUT APPLICATIONS (Apps) are fit for purpose and efficient with the aim to enhance the
  • internal customer experience

Payroll Processing:

  • Ensures that all configuration within the payroll application is legislatively compliant
  • Ensures that all tax changes that are published and implemented by the payroll software vendor is tested and signed off
  • Ensures that the payroll application is up to date as it relates to benefit rates
  • Ensures that the payroll application generates the relevant data for the purposes of accurate reporting
  • Ensures that all Payroll processes are mapped for the purposes of POPIA and Internal/External audit compliance
  • Ensure Salary cost provisions are calculated and sent to finance on-time monthly

Payments:

  • Ensures that compliant controls are in place for all Payments
  • Prepare reconciliations for salary control account and journalize changes
  • Ensure all 3rd Party payment imports and payments are done as per service level agreements (Example: Fund schedules
  • are sent, and contributions paid over on time monthly)
  • All payments are made as per our contractual arrangements with Phadimas
